Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Welcomes Dr. Eric Bonno, Cardiologist
July 10, 2025

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the addition of Eric Bonno, MD, to the Carolina Pines Medical Group Cardiology team. With deep roots in the Carolinas and over a decade of experience in both general cardiology and advanced heart failure, Dr. Bonno brings a passion for personalized care and a commitment to improving cardiovascular health to patients across the area.
A Columbia native and Duke University graduate, Dr. Bonno completed medical school and fellowships at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He also completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA - one of Harvard Medical School’s major teaching hospitals. Dr. Bonno is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.
Dr. Bonno specializes in a broad spectrum of cardiovascular care, including:
- General Cardiology: management of hypertension, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation), valvular heart disease, and heart failure
- Advanced Heart Failure: right heart catheterization, invasive stress testing, remote pulmonary pressure monitoring, evaluation for LVAD or transplant, and care for complex cardiomyopathies such as cardiac amyloidosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Known for his ability to explain complex diagnoses in everyday language, Dr. Bonno emphasizes building trust and understanding with each patient. “I believe in speaking plainly, listening closely, and working together to create a plan that makes sense for each individual,” he said. “People appreciate when you take the time to make them feel heard and empowered.”
Born in Columbia, SC and raised in a family with deep ties to medicine and service, Dr. Bonno attributes his calling to both his upbringing and his family’s inspiring history. “My mother and her siblings came to this country as refugees from South Vietnam,” he shares. “Their faith, resilience, and gratitude shaped my outlook - and my desire to serve.”
After nearly a decade of practicing in the Greenville area - where he also took on educational and leadership roles - Dr. Eric Bonno realized he was craving something different. “After years of practicing in a large hospital system, I was ready for something more personal,” he shared.
Looking for a place where he could slow down, truly get to know his patients, and be part of a close-knit community, Dr. Bonno found a perfect fit at Carolina Pines. “What excites me most is building lasting relationships with the people I care for - not just treating symptoms, but understanding the whole person and their story.”
Dr. Bonno is now accepting new patients at Carolina Pines Medical Group Cardiology, located at 701 Medical Park Drive, Suite 303, in Hartsville. To schedule an appointment, call 843.383.2764 or visit themedicalgroup.com.
“My wife and I are excited to raise our young children here and be part of a community that feels like home.”
