Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Welcomes Urogynecology Specialist Christopher Fukuda, M.D.
Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) is pleased to welcome Christopher Fukuda, M.D., an experienced urologist with advanced training in urogynecology and pediatric urology, to Carolina Pines Medical Group Urology. Dr. Fukuda brings more than three decades of experience caring for adults and children with a wide spectrum of urologic conditions. He will begin seeing patients this month at 701 Medical Park Drive, Suite 110, Hartsville.
While Dr. Fukuda provides comprehensive urologic care for both men and women, he also offers expanded expertise in female pelvic floor disorders – including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, and overactive bladder. His training in this area allows Carolina Pines to offer new, in-house options for patients who previously needed to travel for urogynecologic care.
Introducing this subspecialty marks a significant advancement for the region. As a urologist with additional training in urogynecology, Dr. Fukuda provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for complex pelvic health issues while continuing to care for all general urology patients.
“Dr. Fukuda is a fantastic addition to our hospital and to this community,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, CEO of CPRMC. “His background in both general urology and urogynecology gives patients access to care they would typically have to travel to receive. We’re always looking for ways to expand what we can provide locally, and his arrival is an important step forward.”
Dr. Fukuda represents the eighth consecutive generation of physicians in his family. He completed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, followed by medical school and a pathology fellowship at the University of Vermont. He went on to complete general surgery and urology residency training at the University of Washington in Seattle. His career includes more than two decades on faculty at the University of Vermont, as well as urology practice experience across Vermont, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Montana.
His areas of particular interest include pediatric urology, female urology and pelvic health, BPH/LUTS in men, overactive bladder, and urologic oncology. Known for his warm and honest communication style, Dr. Fukuda prioritizes building trust through clear explanations and collaborative decision-making with patients.
“I am very happy to be returning to South Carolina and joining the team at Carolina Pines,” said Dr. Fukuda. “My goal is to every patient – men, women, and children – the information they need to understand their condition and make the right decisions for their health. I’ve had the privilege of working with Drs. Vaught and Horger in the past and look forward to partnering with them again and contributing to the excellent care they provide to this community.”
Dr. Fukuda and his partner, Betty Jo, are looking forward to making South Carolina home again and enjoying the area’s outdoor activities, history, and culture.
