Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Awards $10,000 Grant in Support of Carolina’s Kids
HARTSVILLE, SC - Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) has awarded a $10,000 grant in support of the Leadership Hartsville Class of 2026 and its class project benefiting Carolina’s Kids, Inc. The grant was issued through the ScionHealth Gives, an initiative of CPRMC’s parent company, ScionHealth.
Each year, the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Hartsville program brings together local professionals to strengthen their leadership skills, learn more about the community and collaborate on a class service project. This year’s class selected Carolina’s Kids as its beneficiary, raising more than $51,000 to support the organization’s work.
Christel Copeland, Executive Assistant at CPRMC, and Tanya Baker, Director of Quality at CPRMC, were members of the Leadership Hartsville Class of 2026. Recognizing an opportunity to further the class’s efforts, they nominated Carolina’s Kids for funding through the ScionHealth Gives. Their nomination resulted in the $10,000 grant, which contributed to the class’s overall fundraising total.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Leadership Hartsville Class of 2026, Carolina Pines, and ScionHealth for this generous support,” said Andrea Campbell, Executive Director of Carolina’s Kids. “These funds will help us continue providing weekend food bags to children who may not otherwise have enough to eat when they are away from school. Knowing our community believes in this work - and in the children we serve - means more than we can say.”
Carolina’s Kids is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing basic necessities and meaningful opportunities to children throughout the Darlington County School District. What began as an effort to collect and distribute backpacks and school supplies has grown to include two community Kids Closets, assistance with field trips and enrichment activities, and the organization’s Hunger Busters program, which provides weekend food bags to children referred by school personnel and churches.
“Carolina Pines is proud to support the Leadership Hartsville Class of 2026 and the important work Carolina’s Kids is doing for children throughout our community,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, CEO of CPRMC. “This project is a powerful example of what can happen when local organizations and community leaders come together around a shared commitment to caring for our neighbors and creating a brighter future for our children.”
Carolina’s Kids is one of many nonprofit organizations across the country receiving support through ScionHealth Gives. The initiative invests in grassroots organizations addressing needs such as healthcare disparities, gaps in education and access to essential social services within the communities where ScionHealth team members live and work.
The foundation encourages ScionHealth employees working across its network of hospitals to identify and nominate organizations making a meaningful difference in underserved communities. Through the initiative of Copeland and Baker, CPRMC was honored to play a part in the Leadership Hartsville Class of 2026’s remarkable effort and help Carolina’s Kids continue caring for children throughout Darlington County.
