Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Welcomes Dr. Philip Chaipis to Carolina Pines Medical Group General Surgery
HARTSVILLE, SC - Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) is pleased to announce that Philip Chaipis, M.D., FACS, a board-certified General Surgeon, specializing in General and Vascular surgery, has signed on to join Carolina Pines Medical Group (CPMG) General Surgery, part of the hospital’s expanding surgical services.
Dr. Chaipis brings more than 30 years of surgical experience and is already a familiar face within the Carolina Pines healthcare community. As Carolina Pines Medical Group continues to grow, the addition of Dr. Chaipis helps strengthen the newly established General Surgery service line and expand access to specialized surgical care for patients across the region.
Dr. Chaipis has previously worked with the team at Hartsville Surgical Center, providing expert surgical care that has always been performed at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. His transition to Carolina Pines Medical Group General Surgery formalizes this affiliation and ensures patients continue to receive seamless, high-quality care in the same trusted environment.
Dr. Chaipis currently provides specialized vein care through the Carolina Pines Vein Clinic, part of the hospital’s Heart and Vascular Center. His new role with CPMG General Surgery further builds on his existing connection to Carolina Pines and the patients he serves throughout the community.
“We’re proud to officially bring on Dr. Chaipis to the Carolina Pines Medical Group General Surgery team,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, Chief Medical Officer of CPRMC. “Our patients have already experienced the high level of care and expertise he brings through both our Vein Clinic and the affiliated Hartsville Surgical Center. As we continue to expand our surgical services, his experience will play an important role in strengthening access to high-quality surgical care for our community.”
Dr. Chaipis specializes in General, Vascular, and Endovascular Surgery, treating a wide range of conditions including venous insufficiency, varicose veins, spider veins, and deep vein thrombosis. Known for his patient-focused approach, he emphasizes education and personalized treatment plans, offering both minimally invasive procedures and surgical solutions to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Prior to relocating to Hartsville in 2024, Dr. Chaipis served as Medical Director and physician at the Center for Vein Restoration. Earlier in his career, he spent eight years as Section Chief of General Surgery at the William Bryan Jennings Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. During that time, he also served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, where he was Site Director and Assistant Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Chaipis earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (now Rutgers Medical School) in Piscataway, New Jersey. He completed his general surgery internship and residency training at Saint Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey, an affiliate of UMDNJ.
