Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) is proud to announce the acquisition of the ExcelsiusGPS®, a revolutionary robotic navigation platform that brings advanced precision and safety to spine surgery. With this investment, CPRMC becomes the first hospital in the Pee Dee region to bring this cutting-edge technology to patients.

ExcelsiusGPS® combines a rigid robotic arm with full navigation capabilities, offering surgeons real-time visualization and guidance during procedures. The system is designed to improve surgical accuracy, enhance patient safety, and reduce radiation exposure for both patients and staff. Ultimately, this means shorter recovery times and a faster return to the activities patients love.

“At Carolina Pines, we’re not just investing in technology - we’re investing in people,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “Our patients deserve access to the very best care, close to home. With ExcelsiusGPS®, we can help more people heal faster, experience less pain, and return to doing the things they love most. That’s why this matters.”

Surgeons at CPRMC will use ExcelsiusGPS® for a variety of procedures, including the placement of screws, interbody implants, and other spinal interventions. The platform supports both minimally invasive and complex procedures, broadening surgical options for patients across the region.

“Back pain and spine issues can be life-changing,” said Dr. Douglas Stofko, Neurosurgeon at Carolina Pines Medical Group. “With ExcelsiusGPS®, we can perform procedures with greater precision and confidence, which often means smaller incisions, shorter recovery times, and better outcomes for our patients. My goal is always to help people get back to living fully - and this technology helps us do just that.”

With the addition of ExcelsiusGPS®, Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center continues to advance its mission of combining compassionate care with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring that patients receive the best possible outcomes, close to home.
