Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Achieves Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation, Leading the Way in Senior-Focused Emergency Care
HARTSVILLE, SC (February 17, 2025) – Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that it has earned Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), becoming the first hospital in the Pee Dee region to receive this distinguished recognition.
This accreditation highlights Carolina Pines’ commitment to providing exceptional, specialized care for older adults in the emergency setting. The GEDA program recognizes emergency departments that meet specific criteria designed to improve outcomes, enhance patient experiences, and promote the highest standards of care for seniors.
A Geriatric Emergency Department focuses on the unique needs of older adults, offering specially trained staff, improved coordination and transitions of care, and an environment designed for safety and comfort. This designation ensures that every senior who comes through the doors at Carolina Pines receives care that is both clinically advanced and deeply compassionate.
“Achieving GEDA accreditation is another example of how Carolina Pines continues to invest in the future of healthcare for our community,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “Good isn’t good enough for us. We’re committed to continually raising the bar - enhancing quality, safety, and comfort for every patient, at every stage of life, right here at home.”
From emergency services to primary and specialty care, Carolina Pines remains steadfast in its mission to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care to the Pee Dee region. The GEDA accreditation represents an important step forward in that mission – ensuring that seniors receive the respect, expertise, and attention they deserve when they need it most.
“We are honored to lead the way in bringing geriatric-focused emergency care to the Pee Dee,” Dr. Sponseller added. “Our community deserves the best, and this recognition reaffirms our dedication to providing it.”
