Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Releases 2025 Community Benefit Report, Highlighting Vital Economic and Healthcare Contributions
HARTSVILLE, South Carolina (April 24, 2026) – Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) today published its comprehensive 2025 Community Benefit Report, detailing the hospital’s significant social and economic impact on the Hartsville area over the past calendar year. The report underscores the facility’s dual role as a premier healthcare provider and a cornerstone of the local economy.
In 2025, CPRMC reached new milestones in clinical expansion and community reinvestment. The hospital successfully launched a specialized spine and pain center, introduced speech therapy services, and opened the Renew medical spa. These clinical advancements were paired with a $5.9 million investment in capital improvements, which included state-of-the-art 3D mammography, robotic navigation for spine surgery, and major upgrades to the catheterization laboratory to support the new Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) program.
“As a healthcare provider, Carolina Pines completed another extraordinary year in 2025, continuing to provide award-winning, high-quality care while adding and expanding services,” said Dr. Brian Sponseller, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “The year was equally impressive in terms of our impact on the Pee Dee region as a large employer and taxpayer, as an essential provider of care to those who cannot afford it, and as a strong supporter of dozens of local organizations that share our vision of improving the health and well-being of our communities and those who live and work here. Our Community Benefit Report provides details on the accomplishments and contributions of our hospital and our team in 2025, showcasing the strong partnership between Carolina Pines and the communities that trust us with their healthcare needs.”
2025 Impact by the Numbers
The report outlines several key areas where CPRMC bolstered the region’s health and stability:
- Access to Care: Provided over $55 million in charitable and uncompensated health services, ensuring medical access for all community members regardless of their ability to pay.
- Economic Engine: Distributed more than $51 million in salaries, wages, and benefits to a dedicated workforce of approximately 725 team members.
- Workforce Development: Contributed nearly $240,000 toward professional development and tuition assistance, fostering a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence.
- Fiscal Contribution: Paid more than $11 million in provider, payroll, property, and sales taxes, directly supporting local infrastructure and public services.
- Medical Growth: Welcomed 14 new providers – in areas such as Cardiology, Nephrology, Occupational Health, Pain & Spine, Primary Care, Speech Therapy, and Women’s Care – to meet the growing needs of the community.
Strengthening Community Ties
Beyond healthcare, CPRMC remains a steadfast partner to dozens of local non-profits and civic groups. In 2025, the hospital continued its support for essential organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, Butler Heritage Foundation, Carolina Kids, Chapter 402 - Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chesterfield County Schools, Child & Family Resource Center, Darlington County Humane Society, Darlington County Schools, Diversity Works Initiatives, Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, Hartsville Police Department, Hartsville Rotary Club, PDRTA, Rubicon Family Counseling, SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, SC Nurses Foundation, Trent Hill Center, and Women’s League of Hartsville, among many others.
“It’s a privilege for our hospital to support these and so many other local organizations that selflessly work to improve our communities and the lives of those who call this area home,” said Dr. Sponseller. “Our partnership with the community is at the foundation of everything we achieve."
