High-Risk Pregnancy
Sometimes having a baby is more complicated than usual. A pregnancy is considered high-risk when there are potential issues that could affect you, your baby, or both of you.
Complications could include:
- Existing diagnosis of diabetes or hypertension
- Being over the age of 35
- Previous pregnancy complications
- Multiple birth. If problems do occur, you need the most advanced care available
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist
A maternal-fetal medicine specialist, also called a perinatologist, is an obstetrician who has received additional education and can evaluate, diagnose and monitor high risk pregnancies. These physicians come to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and are on-site regularly. Their goal is to make a high risk situation less stressful for you and your baby, and help ensure a healthier pregnancy and a safer delivery.
