Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Celebrates Graduation of Project SEARCH Interns

May 17, 2024

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center hosted a graduation ceremony for the 2023-2024 Project SEARCH Interns on Thursday, May 16th. Tyrese Gibson, Jazlynn Henderson, Aaliyah Jordan, and Disir Plummer graduated from Project SEARCH with family, friends, mentors, and hospital staff in attendance.

Darlington County School District, in partnership with Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, launched the Project SEARCH Program in 2018. The purpose of this program is to place students with developmental disabilities in a real-world work environment, to assist them in learning the transferable and marketable job skills they need to be ready for employment after high school. Interns are placed in a variety of departments throughout CPRMC, participating in six-week rotations to better understand how different departments function, as well as get a feel for which they enjoyed most.

These interns have not only gained valuable skills but have also become integral members of our hospital community, touching the lives of all who have had the privilege of working with them. Carolina Pines extends its heartfelt congratulations to these graduates and wishes them success in all their future endeavors!

Project SEARCH is a national program in 47 states and ten countries, according to the school district. There are 15 sites in South Carolina alone and in industries from banking to chemical companies to universities and state and local governments. According to the district, Project SEARCH programs across the state average around 95 percent employability rate once those students go through the program. Carolina Pines’ Project SEARCH Program is led by Donna Cameron, Program Instructor, and Tena Forte, Skills Trainer.
